Modeling heat and mass transfer in laminar forced flow between parallel plates channel imposed to suction or injection

Authors

Abstract:

A numerical model is developed to simulate the transport phenomena in the flow channel between parallel plates with porous and non-porous (or impermeable) walls. The continuity and momentum equations were solved first, assuming the wall Reynolds number in the range of with the suction or injection of air at a speed equal to the uniform inlet velocity. The results show that at constant inlet and wall Reynolds number, the friction factor on porous wall with suction is bigger than that with injection, but the axial non-dimensional pressure drop with injection is larger than the pressure drop in fully developed flow between impermeable plates and also larger than the pressure drop with suction. This is because of the net increase of the mean velocity of flow along the channel when injection is imposed. In the presence of suction, the pressure drop is controlled by suction rate, and approaches to a constant value as the inertia and viscous forces are counterbalanced in the flow. The energy equation is solved independently assuming constant suction rate of air in the porous wall using different thermal boundary conditions. The results show that the Nusselt number distribution along the channel depends on the thermal boundary conditions imposed on porous and non-porous walls. The thermal characteristics also depend on whether suction or injection occurs through the porous wa

unsteady flow in a porous medium between parallel plates in the presence of uniform suction and injection with heat transfer

the unsteady flow in porous medium of a viscous incompressible fluid bounded by two parallel porous plates is studied with heat transfer. a uniform and constant pressure gradient is applied in the axial direction whereas a uniform suction and injection are applied in the direction normal to the plates. the two plates are kept at constant and different temperatures and the viscous dissipation is...

numerical investigation of heat transfer in circular perforated plates exposed to parallel flow and suction

unglazed transpired solar collectors are widely used for heating outside air directly, these days. pre-heating ventilation air for large spaces and heating air for crop drying, are some of the applications of these kinds of collectors. the outside air is drawn straight from ambient, uniformly through the whole surface of a perforated absorber (transpired, dark-colored plate) exposed to the sun....

Perturbation-Iteration Algorithm for Solving Heat and Mass Transfer in the Unsteady Squeezing Flow between Parallel Plates

In this paper, heat and mass transfer in the unsteady squeezing flow between parallel plates is analyzed using a perturbation-iteration algorithm. The similarity transformation is used to transform the governing partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations, before being solved. The solutions of the velocity, temperature and concentration are derived and sketched to explai...

Flow and Heat Transfer Analysis of the Sodium Alginate Conveying Copper Nanoparticles between Two Parallel Plates

In this study, the steady incompressible flow of a non-Newtonian sodium alginate (SA) fluid conveying copper nanoparticles (Cu) which flow within two vertical parallel plates is investigated by using the homotopy perturbation analytical scheme to solve the coupled nonlinear ordinary equations arising from the mechanics of the fluid. The developed analytical solutions are used to investigate the...

The effect of blowing or suction on laminar free convective heat transfer on flat horizontal plates

In the present paper laminar free convective heat transfer on flat permeable horizontal plates is investigated. To assess the effect of surface suction or injection on heat transfer a correction factor, provided by the film model (or "film theory"), is applied. Comparing the film model predictions with numerical results of previous boundary layer analyses yields good agreement for a wide range ...
